For your convenience, we have collated information about the towns and cities close to the Trelander Camping & Caravanning campsite. More information can be found on the Ely Tourist Information website.

Trelander is situated on the River Lark, where you have the ability to fish, walk or just sit back and relax.

Ely

Nestling under the big skies of the Fen countryside, in the shadow of its magnificent cathedral, Ely offers a wealth of attractions. As the second smallest city in England, it is compact enough to explore on foot, but large enough to fill a full day and more. Ely is less than 10 miles away from Isleham.

For those who love a bargain, Ely holds 3 different sorts of markets: the award-winning Farmer’s market, a regular Thursday general market and a Saturday Craft & Collectibles market. There are plenty of places to sit and relax and a number of pavement cafes for a drink and a snack. The River Great Ouse is a natural magnet for visitors to Ely and the long riverside frontage is a great place to watch the world – and a host of aquatic birds – go by.

Cambridge

Your visit to the area would not be complete without a trip to the historic city of Cambridge, known throughout the world for its famous University. It’s less than half an hour by car, or you could take the train and enjoy the beautiful countryside en route. A punting trip, either chauffeured or self-steered, is the best way to see the famous ‘Backs’ along the River Cam, before stopping at one of the many restaurants or pubs for refreshments. Enjoy some retail therapy in the Grand Arcade shopping centre and the Grafton Centre or explore the individual shops along the cobbled streets in the medieval core of the city.

Newmarket

Newmarket is the historic home of horseracing and thoroughbred breeding situated about 10 miles from Isleham. This unique town has 2 racecourses, 60 stud farms (including the National Stud), and 75 licensed trainers and is the home of the Jockey Club, the governing body of horseracing. Also based here is Tattersalls, the biggest equine auction house in Europe, founded in 1776. Visitors to the town can see strings of horses wind their way from stable to training gallops, using the specially built horse walks which criss-cross the town. Newmarket’s High Street has many independent shops and restaurants as well as the Guineas Shopping Centre.

Bury St. Edmunds

Bury boasts a majestic cathedral and the impressive Abbey Precinct and Gardens, and a great selection of shops in the new arc shopping centre. Culturally there is much to see, from the Theatre Royal – the oldest working Georgian theatre in the country – to the Moyse’s Hall Museum and the Malthouse.
